SonicAngel, het innoverende platenlabel achter Tom Dice, kondigt vandaag de eerste internationale akkoorden aan.

Na zijn doortocht in Oslo, werd Me & My Guitar al meer dan 2 miljoen keren op YouTube bekeken (via verschillende versies). In verschillende Europese landen kent ‘Me and My Guitar’ een groot succes op iTunes met chartnoteringen in verschillende landen tot gevolg.

In Duitsland staat de single al een week op 5 in de iTunes chart. Voor Duitsland, Oostenrijk en Zwitserland zal SonicAngel samenwerken met b1recordings (een subdivisie van Universal Duitsland) voor de lancering van de single en zijn album. b1recordings, dat ook Eurovisie 2010 winnares Lena begeleidt, lanceerde eerder de Belgische toppers Milow en Stromae (‘Alors on danse’) in Duitsland, maar ook Werchter headliner Rammstein en Tokio Hotel.
Tom zal de tweede helft van juli gedurende 2 weken een promotour doen in Duitsland.

Ook goed nieuws uit Nederland. SonicAngel zal daar samenwerken met CNR en NL Management. Op 23 juni wordt Tom Dice zijn album voorgesteld tijdens een optreden in de legendarische rocktempel Paradiso in Amsterdam, en in September 2010 volgt een 12 daagse clubtour doorheen Nederland.

Voor Tom Dice en SonicAngel betekenen de sterke resultaten op Eurovisie een versnelde uitrol in Nederland, Duitsland, Oostenrijk en Zwitserland. Maar er is ook interesse uit Scandinavië, Ierland en Engeland, Frankrijk en Griekenland

Ook goed nieuws uit België, waar de single opnieuw op 1 noteert in de Ultratop en het album binnenstormt op de zesde plaats!

Below you can find the full version of the concert that Thom Yorke (Radiohead) and Flea (RHCP) gave on Oct 5, 2009 at the Orpheum in downtown LA. It was an incredible evening, one that I won’t forget easily!

Also, we’re looking to hire some people at SonicAngel. This week we start interviews for:
– a label manager with a focus on discovering, developing and releasing talent
- a senior PHP developer to further develop our platforms (we’re fully LAMP and cloud oriented)
- a product engineer to imagine platform design, artist concepts and partner relations (such as topspin, soundcloud, mxp4)
- a designer and producer for audio/video and social media

If you’re a techie who loves music, or a music passionata fascinated by tech – that’s already step 1. Because we want to combine the best in music and the most efficient in tech to empower talent, you need both. The team is now mainly in Herselt and Los Angeles, but the Belgian part might move to Limburg (or Leuven) at some time. You’d be in for an amazing ride.

Over the last couple of days, I have had quite a few discussions about the great live concerts of 2009, and the huge expectations we have for 2010. It made me think: what did I enjoy the best? While drawing up my list, I noticed it often came down to a combination of content and context. So, let me share my ‘09 favourites, if only for my little boy to read zhat dad liked 15 years ago :

number 15 * Customs at AB Club, Brussels

Walking on a dreary evening around 8pm in the centre of Brussels, I intended to go see a movie while Femke had some of her friends over at our house. While heading to the UGC cinema, I ran into a friend I hadn’t seen for a while, who was on his way to the Customs concert at the AB Club. I had just returned from Los Angeles a couple of days before and didn’t know Customs had been ranked number 1 on Belgium’s best radio station (Studio Brussels) for some weeks.

Fortunately I was able to get a ticket, and what a surprise it was. Small venue, simple show, not the most exciting stage banter by the band in between songs, but great music and a cool live show. Many will probably think it’s a clever mix of Interpol and Editors, but the songs sounded just amazing. Of course, I was somewhat biased, because of the way most people got to know Customs–they emerged via the vi.be platform from Poppunt.

Besides the fact that Poppunt is an amazing organisation that blends passion and professionalism (the secret ingredients of a great organisation, IMO), it signals an important change in the way talent gets discovered and promoted. The internet is making it possible for a beginning band to emerge with the help of their fans and organisations or companies that care, and that evolution will definitely continue. Classic labels will never disappear, but let’s hope that their problems, losses, or down-sizing in every sense of the word will push them to reflect on the reason why they once wanted to be ‘in music’–because music matters, damn it!

Hi folks, we’re releasing a second artist on the SonicAngel label. I know we’re only supposed to start and release our platform around October 2009, but we like these artists so much we’re going early. It’s a cool mix of modern ‘kleinkunst’, folk and pop, brought by exceptional musicians and produced by Erhan. Album expected for October 2009. We’re touring all summer, see here for dates.

De broers Mathieu en Guillaume Engels raakten bekend dankzij hun deelname aan X-Factor 2008, waar ze op een zeer verdienstelijke 4de plaats eindigden. Hun eerste single ‘Komen en Gaan’ wordt uitgebracht via het nieuwe muzieklabel SonicAngel, recent gelanceerd door Maurice Engelen en Bart Becks.

Met de deelname van Mathieu & Guillaume aan de talentenjacht X-Factor 2008, wisten ze de kijkers te overtuigen met covers van ondermeer Stef Bos, Bart Peeters, en een eigenzinnige vertaling van ‘Rise ’n Fall’ van Craig David.

Mathieu & Guillaume, respectievelijk 24 en 22, vormen als broers het ideale muzikale duo. Mathieu als songschrijver, gitarist en gedreven zanger met warme stem, en Guillaume als tweede stem, en met de mondharmonica. Twee verschillende karakters, maar twee handen op één buik die elkaar op vocaal en muzikaal vlak perfect aanvullen.

‘Tijdens X-factor 2008 was ik erg onder de indruk van het uitzonderlijke talent van deze twee broers en beschouwde hen als een echte revelatie’ aldus Maurice Engelen. ‘Ik zie hen als een uitzonderlijke mix van kleinkunst van de nieuwe generatie en kwalitatieve pop’.

Na de wedstrijd schakelde MNM hen in om de Vlaamse Muziekweek op kruissnelheid te brengen. Voor de ‘Ann & Dave show’ bewerkten ze bekende nummers van Vlaamse collega’s (binnen de verschillende genres van de pop, rock- en dance muziek) en vertolkten die live in de studio… met verve!

Deze zomer wordt bijzonder druk voor de broertjes Engels. Een overvolle concertagenda in combinatie met de studio opnamen voor hun debuutalbum dat in oktober zal verschijnen. Live worden de gebroeders Engels bijgestaan door Sander Claes (jazzgitaar), Sam Pauwels (bas) en Hans Jacobs (percussie).

Tom raakte bekend dankzij zijn deelname aan X-Factor 2008, waar hij na een zeer spannende finale als tweede eindigde. Zijn eerste single ‘Bleeding Love’ wordt uitgebracht via het muzieklabel SonicAngel, dat onlangs werd opgericht door Bart Becks en Maurice Engelen, die Toms coach was tijdens de talentenjachtwedstrijd.
